Things are back to normal in Iowa

You know the politicians have fled when this qualifies as a headline.

I ponder the significance of specifying that it was an Iowan who was accused of an attack with a toy monkey. Does this mean we are back to observing only our own (even if they come from a faraway place like Des Moines)? Or is it shock that an Iowan would do such a thing, implying that all those strange people running around the state because of the caucuses have lowered our moral standards?

No true Iowan would attack an officer of the law with a stuffed monkey!

(After all, Iowans love their stuffed animal-toting cops.)

They're just too polite here. I've never even heard of a Cyclones fan attacking a Hawkeye fan with a Herky doll.

There's a town called Normal in Illinois too.

I would think that an Iowan going crazy during a Presidential election year would be not only normal, but expected.

We're tough here. A people who could invent the fried butter stick can survive almost anything.

When I was young and didn't know much about the rest of the world, I thought there was no treat I wouldn't try ... but I was wrong.

Perhaps they are trying to reassure you that it wasn't a dangerous immigrant assaulting the police?

I rather liked your top story "Mild winter saving Cedar Rapids on overtime and salt" as well. It's a brave attempt to make news out of no news.

That was the one that caught my eye, too.

Copying my response to Kes:

When M:TNG-1 was about nine, she borrowed the video recorder and filmed a news report. "It rained today. Now we will show you pictures of wet things downtown. Then we'll go to the mall and show you more things that got wet."

That's about it for an average news day here.

Congratulations on getting rid of the politicians. We have several months before we can ditch them. Sigh.

Cheer up. At least Perry is staying away from home a bit longer!

That is cause for celebration. :)

I'm glad normalcy has returned to you...I still have until February. Ugh.

My sympathies. And then, of course, we will have the insane lead up to the general.

Well, campus cops would use pepper spray.
