Komen Foundation retreats

SGK changes its stance on supporting Planned Parenthood.

They succeeded only in increasing awareness. Now many people will examine them more critically before donating. More importantly, Planned Parenthood's work in providing general healthcare and cancer screening has been well publicized.

ETA: SGK is now going to feel the rage of the religious right because they've back-pedaled. Somewhat incoherent anger being expressed here.

the thing is, when you come against spirits like Judas & Jezebel, you have to be willing to die. most of these corporations aren't willing to do that...

Um, what?

Now they've upset everyone! GG. I find it truly bizarre that a company can make a huge decision like this and then change their mind the next day. Who was thinking it through? Back-pedalling will only damage them more, and in tangential ways, such as general loss of trust. People who might have donated to Komen who had no firm position on Planned Parenthood one way or the other will now think twice about contributing to an organisation so poorly managed.

I agree with the Judas/Jezebel ranter, rather alarmingly. If you take a moral stand for or against something, you have to lash yourself to the mast and stick with it.

They were unwilling to do that from the very first. This from a New York Times story today:

“We didn’t tell anyone except Planned Parenthood,” Mr. Raffaelli said. “We wanted to keep it quiet. We didn’t intend for this to be perceived as a victory for anybody. The whole approach was to not issue press releases to do anything to hurt Planned Parenthood.”

Mr Rafaelli is a moron. Anyone could have told them how this would play.
